The Fall/Winter seasons bring about some of my favorite festivities that invoke a great sense of nostalgia and holiday cheer. Mulling cider, baking cookies, picking out a fresh tree, gift exchanges and holiday soirees - all experiences I look forward to (and romanticize a bit) as soon as the warmer months are over.
With the holiday festivities come holiday outfits, and with holiday outfits come a wave of bloggers talking about their favorite holiday looks. Now, I’m not sure about you but I’m getting a little tired of seeing the same kinds of looks over and over again. You know...the shimmery maxi dress, the sequin mini, the silky ball gown - all beautiful and perfect for the holiday events but chances are some else will show up in something similar. And since you are here, at Beautifully Together, I’ll go ahead and assume you don’t want to look like everyone else.
I've pulled together three alternative looks as a different type of offering for your holiday outfit. These are all looks you will find me in this holiday season and my hope is that they will inspire and encourage you to branch out a little on your next shopping trip or venture into your closet!
Not-So-Ugly Sweater Party
The Ugly Sweater Party is a staple of the holiday season but an event I struggle with. You see...I hate spending money on ugly things. Inevitably I'll pick up some monstrosity of a sweater at Goodwill and two weeks later I'm donating that damn thing right back from whence it came. Any ugly sweater I've purchased for a party has never made it through a full calendar year because I need the precious space it takes up in my already stuffed closet. (duh) Get you a funky and slightly bedazzled sweater that toes the line between fashion piece and tacky, and you have a sweater worth keeping all year.
Santa’s Favorite Siren
This plunging neckline in Rudolph's-nose-red screams "naughty list," and Santa's not the only one who is checking you out, twice. Perfect for a holiday date night with your boo. You can lean over the table at dinner and in a low, sultry voice, whisper “I’m not wearing any underwear." Just leave out the part about finding thongs uncomfortable and not understanding why seamless underwear always seems to bunch in weird spots and that the choice to go commando was just because you were at a loss for what undergarments to wear and not because you were feeling particularly sexy. Any-hoo... this lace jumpsuit gives all the sex appeal of a bodycon dress without looking too simple or played out. Ruffles are still really really trendy but the frill is minimal on this piece, allowing it to feel current without losing it's classic elegance that will keep this timeless in your wardrobe.
Lazy Girl’s New Year
Last year some friends of mine hosted a NYE party in their new home where we took cute pictures in a homemade photo booth, popped champagne, ate too many snacks and and were all in sweatpants by 10:30pm. I'd like to take a minute to recognize that not everyone goes hard on New Years and some of us may start and end the evening in the comfy clothes. This isn't always me but sometimes...it me. ;) This look combines the best of both worlds with a sequined top and sweatpant joggers; add a few sparklers and a bottle of prosecco for the perfect night in!
