Classic Timepiece for a Timeless Wardrobe

In my line of work, both in blogging and my full-time retail job, I see styles cycle in and out, and sometimes back in.  Being surrounded by clothing and watching new receipts flood in each week has the potential to wreak havoc on my finances if I'm not careful with my selecting. Ask me how much I spent in my first week of working in clothing... actually, please don't. *starts to tear up just thinking about it*

Fortunately, at this point in my career, I can usually differentiate between those styles with the staying power of a classic look and the more transient ones.  Ankle-fringe-trimmed denim? Keep. Those will still be chic in 10 years. Those crewneck tee shirts with a V cut out? Trend. Don't waste your money. Scrunchies? They are back and as silly as I felt buying them, I bought three (and this time I'll save them for when they come back in fashion again). I can get behind the occasional trend, but the older I get the more I start thinking about the age-appropriateness and the overall quality of my wardrobe. Is this a classic piece?  Will I still want to wear this in 5, 10, 20 years?  I start thinking about the pieces my mom and grandmother handed down to me and wonder, "Are my grandkids really going to want this $12 top from Forever 21?"

One of the easiest ways to keep your outfits feeling chic and timeless is investing in quality accessories. Even if you are rocking an inexpensive, trendy top to stay current with the fashions, a well made, high-quality watch, can easily elevate the most basic of looks.  Advances in technology have afforded us the digital and smart-watch, but as much as I love my iPhone, the analog watch has that air of classic style that is more in-line with my personal taste.

I'm obsessed with this Frankie wooden watch from Jord because of its unique look and intelligent design.  Not only is its wooden body and emerald face beautiful to look at, but the wood makes it the lightest watch I've ever worn - plus it doesn't pinch my skin or arm hairs when I wear it (one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to watches.) The clasp is designed smartly - easy to put on with one hand - no roommate help required!

I was also impressed with the durability of the wood. I received this watch in the mail right around the time I moved from my apartment in Baltimore City and was accidentally a little rough on it while packing up boxes and moving heavy items into my new house.  I was so afraid I'd ruined it (before pictures - eek!) but it didn't have a scratch on it! But I still don't recommend lifting furniture while wearing it.

Spinning vintage clothing with new and unique pieces is part of my signature style so I paired this beautiful wooden watch with a knit top from the 80s and a big red bow. And what better backdrop than a retro diner, endless cups of coffee and a banana split to compliment this outfit?! This wooden watch has the classic look I love and the staying power (in both style and quality) to be an accessory I can pass along one day. In the meantime, you'll find me rocking this timepiece all spring! #lookattheflickofdawrist
